RICOH Survey - Business related requirements definition for a weakly structured workflow management system

The Institute for Information Systems (IWi) at the University of Saarland and RICOH Co. Ltd. have conducted an international study on the topic of “Business related requirements definition for a workflow management system for weakly structured workflows”. The aim of the survey is as mentioned to determine requirements for a workflow management system (WFMS) by examining customer and market demands and preferences within public administrations and chemical industry.

The project was funded by RICOH Co. Ltd.. The first stage was to consult a variety of experts and users worldwide using a pilot survey. The goal was to determine the exact requirements of such a system from their viewpoint. The results of the study are being treated as requirements in the development of a WFMS for weakly structured workflows. Taking the preferences of users and the general demands of public administrations and chemical industry into account will ensure that the system is developed in a customer and market oriented manner. This project supports the main project “Virtual Office of the Future”. "Virtual Office of the Future" is worldwide unique research platform for document- and knowledge management and software engineering. It is a joint institution of the German Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE).
